its beautiful. it really is. the beauty of waking up on a cool saturday morning, (amazingly it just started drizzling), knowing that you have absolutely pressing on the agenda for the day, having the freedom of going back to sleep or simply mulling around the house. the feeling of freedom that can only arise after you've slogged hard for one week and the weekend... is truly God-sent.
first thing in the morning thoughts
i am a geek/nerd/intellectual. after 21 years of my life living with the notions that all those terms are pretty derogatory in nature, i just cant run away. that i don't place play much above the pursuit of knowledge (under the influence of my dad. no doubt). learning to learn. more then learning more.
im hooked.
notes/thoughts from yday's AG.
really thank God for the providence of AG16. it must have been close to a year since i first joined (kudos to Titus) and i'm beginning to see the benefits and the spiritual walk that my AG can guide me along my way. sort of.
despite me being terribly sniffy and tired from work, (first AG i didn't say a word, amazingly), i learnt more than i have ever remembered for any AG session, and no doubt, (being the nerd i am), i have HAVE to pen this down. so i won't forget. the lessons learnt/thoughts processed.
Time was the topic of the day, and we started off with Titus asking us to list our a)Priorities b)Goals i)for 2008 ii)when we're retired. As we discussed our various... goals, targets, aspirations and desires, it seemed to converge in a way, but yet i knew that something was missing. of sorts. Priorities in life not in relation to how we spend our time each day, our goals for 2008 (like all new year resolutions go) seem like a distant dream when we're going about our day-to-day activities, and for myself, an absence of defined spiritual goals in the light of it all.
Uncle Mike was sharing about his priority to be.. 'abundantly fruitful'. Like the nick on my MSN now, which read "strength from above, when to say yes, and when to say no". Being abundantly fruitful, is harder then it sounds(doh), and like in 2007, i found myself stretched far and wide and thin, and thankfully (or regretfully), i had to push some of my commitments aside, (maybe it was laziness or smth), and focus on the ones that mattered more. guess in the end it all came back to the selfish bit about things, how like when opportunities to serve pop up at the door, its SO easy to say yes to everything, after all, you just want to help out, lighten the load on the other fella, and stuff. but being abundantly fruitful does not mean that you grab all, snatch at all the chances that are available to you.
reminder to self - prayerfully accept and reject commitments
work has been interesting but tiring, amongst many other adjectives. but need to do some soul-searching. where do my priorities lie? is work going to be an end in itself, or like what Uncle Mike said about Moses, work being "preparation for a future calling", or the alternative about His calling into your secular job, to do His work there. i guess we can only sit, ponder, and wonder in the manner that we are used for a greater purpose. what we study, what we do, our choices and decisions and problems that seem so MASSIVE and IMPORTANT now, all seem to wither and fall in the big scheme eh.
as long as we are CONSCIOUS of it. right.running the race... not only for the prize. o may all who come behind us find us faithful.
lessons learnt
1. be abundantly fruitful
2. importance of aligning short-term goals to our long term ones
3. rejecting the good opportunities, waiting for the best ones
4. remember God's blessings always, give thanks
5. we may not know God's specific will for our lives, but assurance from above that all things will work for good, provided we love and walk close to Him (Rom 8:28)
when there's no opportunity for doubt, there's no opportunity for faith
for now, we only see in a mirror dimly... (1 Cor 13:12)
but in the end, we will see things in His full glory=)

What can take a dying man
And raise him up to life again?
What can heal the wounded soul?
What can make us white as snow?
What can fill the emptiness?
What can mend our brokenness? Brokenness?
Mighty, awesome, wonderful
Is the Holy cross.
Where the Lamb lay down His life
To lift us from the fall.
Mighty is the power of the cross.
What restores our faith in God?
What reveals the Father's love?
What can lead the wayward home?
What can melt a heart of stone?
What can free the guilty ones?
What can save and overcome? Overcome?
Mighty, awesome, wonderful
Is the Holy cross.
Where the Lamb lay down His life
To lift us from the fall.
Mighty is the power of the cross.
so. what now?
